Kinesis is 35 per cent more efficient than any other yacht of her size. 35 per cent less power is needed to produce almost 16 knots top speed.
These figures are based on tests in flat sea conditions. Contrary to the notion that seas of 1-2 metres would reduce performance, the reality is the opposite. In these conditions, 20 per cent more thrust is generated. Kinesis is one of a range of 42 metre yachts allowing owners to prioritise economy and speed. With an exceptional range of 4.000 miles, over 750 miles come free of charge thanks to remarkably frugal fuel consumption that is 30 per cent less than on a conventional displacement yacht.

FAST DISPLACEMENT HULL FORM
The design of the hull form by Van Oossanen & Associates, is based on the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) concept and has been optimized for speeds up to 16.5 knots. The required power levels for a yacht of this size and tonnage are better than ever and a comparison with a number of other successful designs show that the hull form is up to 20% to 40% more fuel economic. This is a truly “green” design – especially in combination with the Hull Vane.
THE HULL VANE
The 42 m Fast Displacement design is offered with and without the Hull Vane. The Hull Vane is an invention by Van Oossanen & Associates and consists of a foil fitted below the hull.
This foil, when of a particular design and when fitted at a particular location, decreases the resistance of the hull. For the 42 m yacht this resistance decrease is 19 % at cruising speed and 23 % at maximum speed. This lowers the resistance of the already very efficient hull to a level never before achieved by a motor yacht of this length and displacement. At a design displacement of 350 tons, the yacht with Hull Vane achieves 15.9 knots with 2 x 1080 kW. At the cruising speed of 12 knots the power requirement is only 2 x 240 kW. The fuel consumption figures are correspondingly low. Detailed performance figures are given in the table and figure below.
The Hull Vane has no moving parts and is constructed of steel. The strength and stiffness of the hull fitted with the Hull Vane is not adversely affected. The Hull Vane does not protrude below the bottom of the hull or outside of the waterline shape of the hull.
MORE COMFORT IN WAVES
An additional advantage of the Hull Vane is the significant reduction of unwanted motions in waves. Model tests have shown that in head seas, the pitching motion of the hull, both in terms of amplitude and acceleration levels, are decreased by up to 40%, depending on wave length and wave height. This is due to the damping effect of the foil below the hull. When the bow pitches upwards due to a wave the foil produces a force causing the bow downwards, and when the bow pitches downwards into a wave trough the foil produces a force causing the bow upwards. The result is a more comfortable behaviour of the yacht in waves.
